Jim Duff Music Blog

Growing up in Kentucky, Jim Duff counted the legends of traditional Country music as his heroes. Artists like Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Townes Van Zandt made a huge impact on the young songwriter and helped shape his sound. However, music was not his only talent and life took him in another direction for a while.

Jim Duff Texas Coast Tour

Hello my friends! I’m so excited to announce the “Chemo Cowboy Texas Coast Tour.” I’ll be heading to Texas in April to play a couple of festivals down there. My dear friend Randy Phillips will be joining me on this trip to make sure I don't fall into the gulf. I'm still a little wobbly from the brain surgery and the chemo meds, but I think I have the strength to pull this off. Randy will be acting as my new road manager, security, and anything else we can come up with. LOL I’m so grateful that Randy has agreed to join me on this tour. Randy is a great patriot and has served our country well. Not only has he served our country with pride and dignity, he also is a very talented musician. Check his music out at: https://www.facebook.com/pg/RPM.rocks/about/
I first went to Texas back in 1991 after I was hired to build communication towers for a company in Dallas. I have built several 500 foot tall communication towers in various parts of Texas, but I have never really played my music in Texas. I have to tell you that there were a few times in my life that I thought I would not make it out of Texas alive. I’ll share a quick story with you about the time I was working in Pasadena TX. Mike Sutton, Mike Bigelow, and myself were working on a 200 foot tall stack for a chemical plant in Pasadena. Our job was to replace what the industry calls, a “flair tip.” To make a long story short, the temporary stack that was located 100 yards away went up in to flames while I was on top of the permanent stack greasing the guyed wires. I’ll just say that Mike Sutton saved me from burning alive that day.
Texas has always been, and always will be, a very special place to me. I am super stoked to be fortunate enough to bring my music to the wonderful folks in the lone star state. People in Texas love original songwriters that can invoke emotion through a song. And I believe I have several songs that Texas, and the world can relate to.
I hope to have my new EP finished by the end of March. The EP will include 6 or 7 new songs that I have written over the past few years. Please take time to click over to my website http://www.jimduff.com and check out all of my music.
Thanks again for all the support. Love to all.
