Jim Duff Music Blog

Growing up in Kentucky, Jim Duff counted the legends of traditional Country music as his heroes. Artists like Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Townes Van Zandt made a huge impact on the young songwriter and helped shape his sound. However, music was not his only talent and life took him in another direction for a while.

New Video (Jim Duff Souvenirs)

If it were not for Darin Singleton, I probably would have never heard of John Prine. Yet, because of Darin introducing me to Prine's records, as far back as my high school days, John Prine had a huge chunk of my personal playlist. Personally, I consider him a lyrical genius in his own right.

So one day, as I was picking around on my guitar, I made up this little picking ditty that sounded like the tune "Souvenirs."

It's not exactly how John had picked it, but, then again, I generally like to put my own twist on the tunes I cover of other artist. The lyrics hit pretty close to home...and I just love songs that can take me back there. Hope you enjoy.
