Jim Duff Music Blog

Growing up in Kentucky, Jim Duff counted the legends of traditional Country music as his heroes. Artists like Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Townes Van Zandt made a huge impact on the young songwriter and helped shape his sound. However, music was not his only talent and life took him in another direction for a while.

Financial Crises Solved

Financial Crises Solved
Hey Folks, I'm against the bailout. Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bona fide U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18and up.

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00.My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend. Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads, put away money for college - it'll be there

Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car - create jobsInvest in the market - capital drives growth

Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( 'vote buy' ) economic incentive that is being proposed by our President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG - liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let American General go back to being American General.

Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust most of my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion. We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.520Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.
Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

Hometown Wireless

This is the end of my best effort to educate folks on the current advancements in technology. Folks that talk out of school about technical issues need to get their facts straight before questioning all the opportunities before them. However most of the residents I've talked with, throughout the county, seem to understand the advancements in broadband technology better than the, so-called "old guard." The residents of Lincoln County have figured out that this world is much much bigger then what the oppositionenvisions it to be. Should leadership even question the value of allowing the same opportunities for their community that other communities throughout nation have. For instance: In larger metropolitan areas, carriers like Verizon, AT&T and Sprint are already providing 50/20 MB wireless broadband speeds for those communities. Sprint just launched the first 4G network in the US.

We understand that Lincoln County is not a large metropolitan area, but the folks that live in Lincoln County deserve the same "Quality of Service" that folks that live elsewhere receive. If Hometown wants it's customersto be able to enjoy live video streaming along with our quality content over the internet, then Hometown must have the bandwidth it takes to do so. In the end, it really is all about bandwidth and bandwidth cost.So to those council members that say "Duff may be overstating his capabilities" I have provided below a "Certificate of Appreciation" from Sprint for providing quality assurance services for their network build out in Puerto Rico. We built over 115 sites and Sprint thought that I was totally capably.

With this said, its time to quit talking and start producing. The folks that know me will tell you that I don’t mind a little competition and I am certainly not a stranger to a challenge. Hometown Wireless will continue its quest to provide 'every' resident in Lincoln County with true wireless broadband service. Hometown will launch it's network covering Stanford in mid-November and fill in the restof the county in accordance with our build-out plan. If interested, you can find it on our website http://www.hometownwireless.biz/. If you're interested in getting wireless broadband service, please take time to submit the "Indication of Interest." Thank you,

Racing Memories

If you would, check me and o'l DW out! This picture was taken in Darlington, South Carolina in 1982. My stepfather, Don, and my mom took my two sisters and me to the Southern 500 that year. As it happened, Darrell and his family were staying in the same hotel as my family. I will freely admit that I was a big time DW fan from the time I was 8 or 9 up until the day he retired. I recall Buddy Baker sitting on the pole that day and Dale Earnhardt won the race. For those of you that don’t know, Dale Earnhardt was driving a Ford that day for the famous Wood Brothers racing team. DW didn’t fair too well that day for some reason… I can't remember. of course, memories of that race bring back old memories from other races I attended while growing up in Lincoln County.

As I remember, the first race I ever had the pleasure of attending was Bristol in 1982. And DW was the man to beat. Both Darrell and Dale were pitting directly in front of ware I was sitting. After trading paint with Earnhardt all day, Waltrip, finally,
prevailed as the victor. My emotions were of disbelief! I had just witnessed my first cup race, at the age of 10, and my all-time favorite driver had just won. How I miss those days! I really had a great childhood. One distinct memory of the day that sticks out in my memory, was that is the guy sitting next to me was a big Earnhardt fan. However I just couldn’t understand why he keep flipping o'l DW the bird ever time he pitted.

In 2000, I was fortunate enough to attend the last Talladega race Darrell ever drove in, which also turned out to be Dale's last Talladega win. It was a sad day for all DW fans because DW ran so far in the back that he lost the draft, while Dale Earnhardt put on one of the greatest performances ever by any driver in any series.

In 1983 I saw the "King," Richard Petty win the Winston 500, for what it's worth! How many folks can say that they actually saw Richard Petty win a race? Country singer Marty Robbins drove in the race that day. Needless to say, o'l DW didn't do that
well that day. I remember DW being involved in a crash that took place in turn 1 with Phil Parsons and host of other drivers. It just so happened that my step-dad, Don and I were walking to the bathrooms located in turn one of the monstrous Talladega track when the wreck occurred.

Darrell is a Kentucky boy who won 84 races and 3 Sprint cups. He also was the first driver to ever win over a million dollars in a single season…not bad for one of us hillbillies!

I want to send a shout to an old hometown-racing hero of mine, Ronnie Bates.
Back in the day, Ronnie used to take me to the racetrack in Corbin when he raced
on Saturday nights. I remember watching Ronnie drive his first ARCA series race in Atlanta. Since then, Ronnie has gone on to race at some of the biggest tracks in the world, including my favorite track; Talladega. Go Ronnie go!

Hometown Wireless

Hey folks! I'm sending you a link to my latest blog regarding Hometown Wireless's quest to bring true broadband internet speeds to Lincoln Co. Please click on the link below to read the latest news from the Advocate Messenger.
http://www.amnews.com/public_html/?module=displaystory&story_id=44035&format=html

Truth is, I haven't "passed around" any "endorsement letter" from Mr. Woods. However, Hometown has submitted a letter to the Lincoln County fiscal court and the Stanford City Council, written by Mr. Woods, stating the benefits of the technology that Hometown can
provide. I did circulate among the council a chart showing the differences in technology. Please click below to view chart.

I do want to make it clear that I did not, at any time, say that Hometown would bypass Stanford. Hometown will cover the entire county, starting with Stanford. There are several other communicationC2towers located in the city of Stanford. Hometown Wireless can function without using the water tanks. We simply had hoped to save start-up money by using them in order to cut cost.

And last, but not least, Mr. Hosner stated that Daryl Day and I are cousins. Not that I would not be honored to have Daryl as a cousin, but, truth is, I have never seen Daryl Day at one of my family reunions. Therefore, I cannot confirm that he is my cousin or not other than through 'Adam.' Then again, maybe Mr. Hosner knows som
ething that I don't?

Lincoln Football 1988 Reunion

On Friday, September 12th, I attended the Lincoln County football game at Death Valley. Lincoln County played host to Mercer County. That same evening, the 1988 Lincoln County football team held its 20-year reunion. It was a great opportunity to reminisce and talk about the good old days. Click on the link below to hear Rodney Hester and me being interviewed by Time Estes.

I cannot express the impact of being apart of such a true brotherhood and seeing Coach Phillips, who stands as a figurative rock in the corner of the end zone at 'Death Valley.' Coach Phillips, along with all the coaches, have influenced my life beyond words. After the game, we convened at Chris Cooper’s house for an evening of stories. We laughed until we cried. Those that attended the reunion decided to start an alumni association for the 88 team. If you were a member of the 88 team and you would like to participate please contact big, tall Chris Cooper (ha ha) or Rondey a.k.a. 'Certy' Hester or David 'Pooky' Bird for more information. I think that the 88 team should meet once a year. After all we were the team that raised the bar and set the standerd for Lincoln football.

On a sadder note, one of our brothers, Brian Mcguffey lost his father in a truck accident last week. All of us from the 88 team send our condolences. Brian and his family will be in our thoughts and in our prayers.
